I’ve always paid more attention to melodies than lyrics, so I’m sure that’s playing a role in my interpretation as well. I was expecting/hoping for more of those moments, but instead found myself swept away into a smooth, silky, technically beautiful audioscape that I think would be wonderful to play in the background (for example, Woman Like Me). When I think of pre-30 Adele, I think of powerful vocal moments and melodies that compel you to sing along, joyfully or tearfully.
